A word from the hub

It is with great pride and a deep sense of purpose that I welcome you to SouthRift Digital and Innovation Hub, an initiative established to empower communities through technology, innovation, education, and digital skills development. The establishment of this Hub reflects our commitment to creating opportunities for young people and communities across the South Rift region and beyond. This vision would not have been possible without the invaluable support of the Safaricom M-PESA Foundation, whose partnership has played a significant role in bringing this transformative facility to life. We are sincerely grateful for their investment in digital empowerment and community development. Our Hub is more than a physical facility; it is a centre for learning, creativity, research, entrepreneurship, and innovation. It comprises an Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, a Computer Laboratory, a Digital Library, a Community Hall, a Meeting Room, and a Cyber Café Centre. These facilities are designed to provide an enabling environment where learners, innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and community members can acquire practical skills, exchange ideas, and develop solutions to real-world challenges. We are equally committed to building strong partnerships with leading academic institutions and technology organisations. Our collaborations with Rongo University, Cisco Academy, the Open University of Kenya, Microsoft, Bureti National Polytechnic, and Huawei reflect our determination to connect our learners with recognised training, industry-relevant certifications, and emerging opportunities in the digital economy. A significant milestone in this journey is the Memorandum of Understanding signed between SouthRift Digital and Innovation Hub and Rongo University. This partnership provides a foundation for advancing artificial intelligence education and research, including opportunities to host master's students specialising in Artificial Intelligence. We believe that such collaborations will strengthen research, nurture innovation, and position our region to participate meaningfully in the development of emerging technologies. As the Hub opens its doors, our focus is on delivering accredited courses, certification programmes, and practical digital skills training that respond to the needs of today's economy. We want every learner who walks through our doors to gain knowledge, build confidence, discover opportunities, and develop the capacity to turn their skills into sustainable livelihoods. Our guiding philosophy is simple: we are building more than a building; we are building a pipeline from skills to income. We envision a future in which young people do not merely seek opportunities but are equipped to create them through innovation, entrepreneurship, technology, and meaningful employment. I invite students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, development partners, government institutions, and members of the community to join us in this journey.
