Empowering Communities Through Digital Innovation
SouthRift Digital and Innovation Hub was established with a vision of transforming lives through technology, innovation, education, and digital skills development. The Hub was created to bridge the digital divide, nurture local talent, and connect young people and communities across the South Rift region and beyond to meaningful opportunities in the digital economy.
The establishment of this facility was made possible through the valuable support of the Safaricom M-PESA Foundation, whose contribution has helped bring this vision to life. We are grateful for this partnership and its role in advancing digital empowerment, learning, and community development.
A Centre for Learning, Innovation and Opportunity
SouthRift Digital and Innovation Hub is more than a building; it is a space where ideas are nurtured, skills are developed, and opportunities are created. Our facility brings together essential resources designed to support learning, research, creativity, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.
The Hub comprises an Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, a Computer Laboratory, a Digital Library, a Community Hall, a Meeting Room, and a Cyber Café Centre. These facilities provide an enabling environment for students, researchers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and community members to explore technology, collaborate, and develop practical solutions to real-world challenges.
Building Partnerships for the Future
We recognise that meaningful digital transformation requires collaboration. SouthRift Digital and Innovation Hub works with educational institutions and technology partners to expand access to quality training, professional certifications, research, and industry-relevant digital skills.
Our institutional and technology partnerships include Rongo University, Cisco Academy, the Open University of Kenya, Microsoft, Bureti National Polytechnic, and Huawei. Through these collaborations, we aim to create pathways for learners to access relevant knowledge, develop practical competencies, and prepare for the evolving demands of the digital economy.
A key milestone in our journey is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Rongo University. This partnership creates opportunities to strengthen collaboration in Artificial Intelligence education and research, including opportunities for master’s students specialising in Artificial Intelligence to engage with the Hub. It represents an important step towards positioning the South Rift region as a growing centre for technology, innovation, and advanced learning.
Creating Pathways from Skills to Income
The Hub is now open and committed to providing access to accredited courses, certification programmes, and practical digital skills training. Our focus is to ensure that learners gain more than theoretical knowledge; they develop the practical abilities, confidence, and entrepreneurial mindset needed to pursue employment, launch businesses, and contribute to their communities.
We believe that digital skills should translate into tangible opportunities. By connecting training with industry needs, innovation with entrepreneurship, and education with practical experience, we seek to empower young people to become creators of solutions, innovators, and active participants in the digital economy.
Our Vision for the South Rift and Beyond
As we look to the future, SouthRift Digital and Innovation Hub aspires to become a leading centre for digital learning, Artificial Intelligence, innovation, research, and community empowerment. We remain committed to expanding access to technology, supporting emerging talent, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation reach communities across the region and beyond.
Our story is one of collaboration, opportunity, and a shared commitment to a better future.
We are building more than a building — we are building a pipeline from skills to income.
